I have always had a thing for fitness. Over the decades, it has become more of A MUST to be fit and strong rather than just wanting to be fit. Running a household and parenting solo, managing a full-time corporate career, being a dance mom and blogging is a massive undertaking. Working out is that one thing I can skip and have a good reason to do so. But I have discovered that working out is a priority just like getting groceries and being present for my team.
Working out is the best physical medicine for all I have going on. I can’t describe the relief I feel once I’ve pushed through a 20 min plyo class and then hit the weights for another 15 minutes. Stretching is the icing and cherry on top. If I leave the gym without stretching good, I’ll pay a different price- stiffness, which defeats the purpose of loosening up with cardio.
My posture also benefits from a good working out. I realized how much I rarely raised my arms above my head a few years ago. I sit a lot at work and on my bed at home behind a computer. So much tension builds up in my neck and shoulders from a sitting working posture, that I started tilting forward with my shoulders kissing my ears (not a good look). Now I on purpose work my upper body to release that tension to avoid leaning forward and developing a curve in my spine.
More than anything, I like the way I look when I look at my body in the mirror. That’s simple enough and that maybe the biggest reason I am motivated to keep a workout routine.
We owe it to ourselves to look good and feel amazing. Our families, careers, and those looking up to us need to see us being responsible for our well being. So take some time to invest in your physical fitness. It makes such a difference and your body will thank you for the investment.
