Is December really here? As magical as the month of December is, it can be bittersweet to close out the year and reminisce on how the year played out. For me, it’s my birthday month so I often reflect on where I am in my life at this age.
Now that I am grown for real, I make it a point to slow things down or at least recognize I am moving too fast. The thought of going through the motion is always agonizing so recognizing wins and progress is very important to me. I don’t want life to be a blur with no meaning. Being intentional is super sweet and by default builds great memories.
I didn’t go all out this year with decorations. I focused on the experience of my daughter and I picking the perfect tree and simply adding lights. Baking sweets and matching holiday jammies during the week of Christmas always carries its weight in gold and we love it.
As time goes on, this season is slowly becoming more about valuing time together, resting, and dreaming for the future.
I am easily satisfied with the gift of seeing my daughter excited that I fulfilled a dream for her. As parents, we get such a thrill out of giving our children their hearts desire. To see their faces light up with excitement is priceless on Christmas Day.
This year however, I have decided it is important that my daughter have the same opportunity to experience that indescribable feeling of love when giving. She has a small budget to shop with and my Christmas list. To say the least, she is feeling super empowered with cash in hand ready to play Santa. (I think my plan could work). I am hoping this exercise will give her the discipline to eagerly think of others throughout her life instead only being a reciever.
We have also decided to offer our personal gifts to Jesus on his birthday so we both keep perspective of this season of love beyond gifts and self indulgence.
Whatever way you plan to celebrate this Season, be sure to savor the moments. Pace events so you actually remember what it felt like to be in that moment and have a very, very Merry Christmas. XOXO
